KP province to reform college education

PESHAWAR: The Higher Education Department of Pakistan’s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has come up with plans to make college education result-oriented. A digital file tracking system will be established within two months at the department to ensure speedy disposal of official business. A complaint and grievances cell will also be set up Public access to information will be facilitated to ensure transparency, credibility and solutions for problems. Need-based planning and performance-based budgeting already under implementation will be accelerated. A committee has been set up to update the Education Code 1935 which regulates colleges. Staff in colleges will be rationalised to ensure postings and transfers are based on requirements to prevent shortage or surplus. All principals have been directed to ensure admissions are on merit, while attendance registers for teachers and other staff will be placed in the office of the superintendent which would be presented to the principal 15 minutes after start of a working day. A biometric system of attendance is also proposed and there will be a timetable for courses. A dress code for teachers and  evaluation of their performance will be launched in the coming academic year. To promote co-curricular activities, student societies will be reactivated. There are also plans to set up e-libraries and e-achieves in all districts of the province. 
Four die, 15 hurt in road accident
Islamabad: Four people were killed and 15 injured in a road  accident in east of Pakistan last night. Rescue sources said a truck collided with an oil tanker in Vehari District in , Punjab province, east of the country, killing four people and wounding fifteen others who were in the truck. The wounded were taken to the government hospital in Vehari city.
