DOHA: The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs is set to implement four projects to support education and charity in different countries.
A plan was discussed at the Ramadan tent of Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab mosque, in the presence of the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs H E Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari. Senior officials at the ministry were also present, Qatar News Agency reported yesterday.
A mosque will be built in the city of Maalmo in Sweden at the cost of 2,870,000 euros and another at the Doha Academy in Mauritius at the cost of $1.5m.
Colleges will also be built at the Bale International University in Ethiopia at an estimated cost of $1m. They include College of Shariah Law, College of Arabic Language, College of Administration and Business and College of IT and Technology.
A charitable institution ‘Doha Charity’ will be built in Thiruvananthapuram district in the southern Indian state of Kerala, costing more than $2m. Revenue from it will benefit the Islamic University in the area.
The Director of Islamic Affairs at the ministry, Khalid Shaheen Al Ganim, said that the ministry is committed to supporting the Muslim community in different parts of the world to play their role as a mediator for different civilisations and interact with other cultures.
He said the ministry had implemented such projects in over 100 countries, which included basic facilities such as mosques, universities, libraries, homes, hospitals, schools and community halls.
The ministry conducts studies before implementing any project in a foreign country, he added.
