Doha: The Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA) celebrated World Humanitarian Day yesterday. The day falls on August 19 of every year.

Head of the department of licences and support at  RACA Rashid Mohammed Al Nuaimi said the authority uses the day to pay tribute to humanitarian work and to call for protecting humanitarian teams all around the world.

He said that the authority was established to support and regulate charitable work. He pointed out that the authority had prepared an integrated programme, in commemoration of the World Humanitarian Day, by highlighting the role Qatar plays in serving the charitable and humanitarian sector around the world.

The programme recalled the great efforts made by Qatari institutions, associations and organisations, in supporting global charitable and humanitarian work.

Al Nuaimi stressed the role of RACA in supervising charitable and humanitarian work carried out by private institutions, as well as supervising and controlling the operations of collecting authorised donations for charitable associations and institutions. He noted that the latter is carried out in cooperation with the designated authorities.

He said that the authority is obligated to keep records and statistics on the approved measures and the penalties that were applied to private charitable institutions, in addition to promoting
the importance of charitable work.
