Jerez, Spain: Nasser bin Khalifa Al Attiyah (pictured), Head of QMMF and FIM Vice-President arrived here yesterday to contest the elections of the FIM Executive Office on Saturday.
Al Attiyah who is bidding to become the FIM Vice-President for the second time hoped to retain his position.
“I am happy to enter this election for the second time as an Arab and Gulf citizen,” said Al Attiyah after reaching Jerez.
“I am hoping for a positive result so that the progress of the previous four years for motor sport in Asia continue.”
Al Attiyah, however lamented  some ‘negative aspects’.
‘There is no cooperation or coordination of FIA unions and clubs. This was evident during my past tenure,” he said before hoping for better future.
The seasoned official stated he and his team worked on new constructive ideas while organising major championships.
“ We hosted many major events in a befitting manner in Qatar. All this success owe to the permanent support of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the government of Qatar.”
It is worth saying that Al Attiyah is entering this elections in different circumstances as compared to the previous one in 2010. The FIM Vice-President managed to build a good relation between the European and Asian unions during his tenure.
In addition, Al Attiyah  promoted motorbike in the Middle East by organising various championships including mega events at the Losail International Track in Qatar.
Moreover, he managed to make a fruitful cooperation with all unions members throughout the good relationship with FIM President Vito Ippolito who did his best to promote the motorsport all over the world.
Attiyah’s successful stint makes him the top contender to retain the position of FIM Vice-President at the upcoming elections. THE PENINSULA
