Turkey names key street after Qatar

Ankara: Qatar’s Ambassador to Turkey Salem bin Mubarak Al Shafi inaugurated a street named after Qatar, adjacent to the Presidential Republican Palace in Chanakaya, one of the most prestigious suburbs in the city, to mark Qatar’s National Day.
Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, Greater Ankara Municipal Council Chairman Ali Ihsan Yilmaz, Qatari-Turkish Friendship Parliamentary Group  President Yahya Akman, MPs, officials from the foreign and finance ministries and the council as well as Arab ambassadors and charge d’affaires were present.
Yilmaz congratulated Qatar on National Day and praised relations, especially political coordination.
He said the council had decided to rename the street after Qatar due to strong relations between both countries and hailed Al Shafi for suggesting the idea.
He said 2015 will be a cultural year between both countries.
Al Shafi thanked Gokcek for his contribution to naming of the street after Qatar in one of the most prestigious suburban in Ankara and thanked Simsek for participation, praising his role in promoting relations.
Al Shafi said: “Today (yesterday) we have two festivals — the first is Qatar’s National Day celebrations and the second is the opening of the street.” QNA
