DOHA: Debaters from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Q) topped the recent fourth Tournament of Qatar Universities Debate League (QUDL) in English organised by QatarDebate.
Ali Ahsan, Arwa Al Sanosi and Eilin Francis were the top three speakers at the tournament, with Lama Obeid of Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMCQ) tying with them.
The event hosted by Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMUQ) saw 28 teams from seven universities including Academic Bridge Programme, CMUQ, College of North Atlantic Qatar, SFS-Q, Qatar University, Stenden University Qatar and WCMCQ.
Participants debated around four motions which included: THW rather sees one innocent man go to jail than a 100 guilty men walk free, THW obliges pharmaceutical companies to spend half of their research budgets on illnesses that occur primarily in developing countries, THW believes that militaries in newly democratised Arab states should act as guardians of secularism and THW assassinates Bashar Al Assad.
