Doha: Twenty-five healthcare professionals from Qatar and the region graduated from an Accredited Diabetes Educator Graduate Certificate programme, a nine-month course to equip them with insight into latest developments in diabetes care and education and improve the quality of life for the patients.
The programme was delivered by Canadian Michener Institute for Applied Health Science, in conjunction with Calgary University-Qatar and supported by Action on Diabetes (AOD)and Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), a member of Qatar Foundation.
The graduation ceremony and awards dinner were held at Al Mirqab Boutique Hotel, Souq Waqif.
Dr Abdulla Al Hamaq, Executive Director, QDA, said: “Our goal is to deliver programmes designed to help people affected by diabetes. Given that diabetes is one of Qatar’s biggest health challenges with 16.7 percent of Qataris living with the condition, having 25 health professionals graduate this year puts us one step forward in increasing awareness and enabling us to better support patients.
Herluf Nis Thomsen, Novo Nordisk, Senior Project Manager, AOC, said, “It has been a pleasure to work with QDA and Canadian Michener Institute for the second year running to support this project.
“At AOD, we continue to work to support those working in diabetes care by hosting workshops and facilitating courses that offer diabetes education and training, and are committed to helping prevent diabetes from increasing further in Qatar.”
The programme is the first distance learning programme of its kind in Qatar. It included six online modules and evaluation through written assignments, presentations and web-based examinations.
