DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) is to open a new model village to house about 100 displaced Syrian families.
The village, which is the fourth of its kind in Syria, is in the final stages of construction and includes essential services.
It is being implemented as part of the ‘Before They Freeze’ campaign for the benefit of displaced and refugee Syrians affected by the recent snowstorms.
The project has been funded by donations from Qatari benefactors and philanthropists in Qatar, who have contributed QR33m so far.
The village will comprise apartments/caravans for Syrian families or around 600 people currently sheltering in tents.
Each caravan/apartment covers an area of 17.5sqm in addition to a 70sqm kitchen for the village, a 140sqm mosque, a 140sqm school, bathrooms for men and women, laundry rooms, playgrounds for children, water distribution and rubbish collection points.
All caravans/apartments are fully equipped with carpets, mattresses, blankets, pillows and kitchen equipment, and residents will also receive free meals every day, education services, primary healthcare, religious lessons and laundry services.
QC is working on implementation of projects to help off-set the worsening conditions the Syrians are experiencing at home and in neighbouring countries, particularly in light of the difficulty of access experienced by humanitarian and charitable organisations.
QC is expected to announce implementation of other model villages in the immediate future.
The ‘Before They Freeze’ campaign continues and will include a new relief convoy.
To donate, call the campaign hotlines 55524646 and 70700792, or the call centre on 44667711 or via QC website qcharity.org where donors can purchase shares.
