DOHA: Qatar Financial Centre Authority (QFCA) and Qatar University (QU) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote mutual interests in the fields of finance, research and education and boost financial and business skills development among students, said a statement yesterday.
The MoU was signed by Yousuf Mohammed Al Jaida, Deputy CEO, QFCA, and Professor Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, President, QU.
It enhances collaboration in three main areas: MBA graduation projects, QFCA research grants, and faculty awards.
Each year, MBA students from College of Business and Economics at QU will be eligible to participate in one project with QFCA which will provide funding and set the topic, aligning it with students’ interests and experience.
Two research grants will be given to the college’s faculty members annually by QFCA to conduct research of mutual interest.
The research topics, based on criteria previously set by the faculty, will be selected by both parties.
QFCA will create ‘The Faculty Award in Finance Research’, to recognise a CBE faculty member conducting research in an area of finance deemed to best contribute to the economic development of Qatar and the GCC.
The award will be based on criteria and a selection process agreed by both institutions.
Al Jaida said: “Enlarging the talent pool available to the commercial and financial sector in Qatar through education is a key imperative for QFCA. It is part of our strategy to develop a first-class international financial services industry and business sector in Qatar.”
Al Misnad added: “QU’s relationship with QFCA stands on a solid foundation. This has been proven time after time, most recently through cooperation on the Kawader programme.
“The MoU is a further step in growing that relationship and represents a commitment by both organisations to shared endeavours to build a strong local talent base, while contributing through research and education to the development of a vibrant financial services sector.”
