Doha, Qatar: Under the patronage of Minister of Environment and Climate Change H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) has launched the second workshop to discuss the final draft of the National Strategy and Action Plan to Combat Desertification in Qatar.
The workshop is being held from May 20 to 21, with the participation of several national entities and a group of experts and specialists, as part of the country’s efforts to enhance environmental sustainability and address the challenges of land degradation. The workshop aims to ensure that the strategy aligns with Qatar’s national goals for combating desertification and to integrate it within the framework of the Third National Development Strategy, thereby contributing to a comprehensive alignment with the country’s development, social, and economic pathways.
Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Natural Reserves Affairs at the Ministry Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al-Musallami, emphasised that the National Strategy to Combat Desertification, being developed in cooperation with relevant stakeholders, is consistent with the Third National Development Strategy (2024–2030).
He noted that the strategy reflects Qatar’s commitment to addressing the challenges of desertification and drought through a comprehensive and sustainable development approach.
Al-Musallami explained that the strategy aims to conserve natural resources, protect biodiversity, and ensure optimal land use by addressing the root causes of desertification, particularly economic factors.
Director of the Wildlife Development Department Yousef Ibrahim Al-Hammadi also addressed the workshop.
