Emir to visit France on Monday

Doha: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will begin on Monday an official visit to France.
The Emir will meet President Francois Hollande to discuss cooperation and means to enhancing it in various fields in addition to regional and international issues of joint interest. 
The Emir will also hold consultations with to officials on development of cooperation to realise the interests of the two peoples.

Emir holds talks with King of Spain

Doha: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday held telephone talks with King Felipe VI of Spain and congratulated him on his accession to the throne, wishing him success. 
They also reviewed relations between both countries and ways of strengthening them.

Qatar’s support to Unesco hailed

Doha: The Director-General of Unesco, Irina Bokova, thanked Qatar for support for maintaining and protecting world heritage.
Bokova stressed that Qatar is among the biggest supporters in the field, highlighting the government’s announcement to donate $10m to World Heritage Emergency Fund.
She also  thanked H E Sheikha Al Mayasa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson, Qatar Museums, and Chair of the 38th session of the World Heritage Committee for hosting the event from June 15 to 25.
 Speaking at the opening session yesterday, Bokova said Qatar’s support reflects the strong partnership between the country and Unesco, embodied by initiatives of H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser as Unesco’s Special Envoy for Education.
Referring to the donation Bokova said, “The decision is particularly timely, given threats to heritage today, Syria and Iraq, in particular.
Bokova warned of dangers of extremism and extremists targeting heritage sites, and said targeting heritage endangers human identity and culture and called for protection of these sites.
