QNA

Gaza: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), in partnership with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO), has concluded a food and water assistance initiative in the Gaza Strip aimed at alleviating the suffering of displaced persons and helping improve living conditions for more than two million people across the enclave.

The initiative forms part of QRCS's ongoing humanitarian efforts to support those affected by the war in the Gaza Strip.

Director of the QRCS Office in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Akram Nassar, revealed that approximately 59,095 food parcels were distributed to the most vulnerable displaced families residing in shelters and devastated areas across all governorates of the Gaza Strip. The assistance sought to support residents amid severe shortages of food supplies, soaring prices, the prolonged economic downturn, and the loss of livelihoods resulting from nearly two years of war.

Dr. Nassar explained that the first phase of the initiative was implemented last year and included the distribution of 58,000 food parcels. An additional 1,095 food parcels were distributed in April this year in coordination with JHCO field teams operating in the Gaza Strip.

He added that the initiative also provided potable water to displacement camps and shelters facing the greatest need in the Gaza, Central and Southern governorates. The intervention was launched as an emergency response to the worsening water crisis, marked by a severe shortage of safe drinking water and its serious health and environmental repercussions on the population.

QRCS implemented the initiative at a total cost of $44.431 million as part of its commitment to sustaining humanitarian assistance and ensuring the continued delivery of life-saving basic services to residents of the Gaza Strip.
