The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC)’s main Emergency Department and Paediatric Emergency Centres (PEC) across the country have recorded less number of cases on the first day of Eid Al Adha.
According to officials, the recorded number of emergency cases were less or similar to regular days.
The number of cases seen during Eid Al Adha has reduced due to several reasons, including public awareness and compliance with COVID-19 preventive measures, Dr. Abdulnasir Howaidi, Senior Consultant at the Emergency Department, told The Peninsula.
The cases the department received were due to road traffic accidents, stomach ailments, and chronic conditions such as cardiac problems, diabetes and trauma due to different reasons.
The Emergency Department at Hamad General Hospital received a total of 362 cases including 16 for abdominal problems and five for road traffic accidents. “It is a good sign to see less people coming for emergency cases. None of the cases was critical. And the number of cases was similar to normal days. Only 6 road accidents were reported; among them two had moderate condition and were admitted to hospital,”said Dr. Howaidi.
“As we were well-prepared to receive patients during the Eid holidays, everything was smooth. The team with specialised doctors, nurses and paramedics, we ensure that operations are not affected and patients are given the best care,” he added. While the main PEC in Al Sadd received 369 cases, PEC Al Rayyan received 206 and the PEC in Old Airport area received 80, and the PEC in Al Daayen received 48 cases..
“All cases were minor. Most of them were suffering from upper respiratory tract infection, acute gastroenteritis and mild fever. All the patients are stable. There were no critical cases. There was no admission from PEC to Hamad in the last 24 hours,” said Acting Chairman of Paediatrics and Director of Paediatric Centres, Dr. Mohamed Al Amri.
“The number of cases was fewer compared to previous occasions of Eid and number is less compared to the last few days. It is almost sliced by half in all Centres,” he said.
According to Dr. Al Amri, over the past few days the PEC in Al Saad has received 600 cases and other PECs have also received more cases.
“We suspect that during the first day of Eid, many people are busy visiting their relatives and they treat children especially with mild fever with paracetamol. They try to manage at home,” he said.
“Also due to summer and holidays many have travelled out of Qatar. That too might be a reason to have less number of cases at PECs,” he added.
The Ambulance Service transported 139 people due to medical and trauma conditions yesterday. It included five minor road accidents and two people were transported by Lifeflight (air-ambulances) for medical emergencies, according to Ali Darwish, Assistant Executive Director of the Ambulance Service. He said that there were also minor medical cases like abdominal pain, back pain and minor trauma cases.
