New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) yesterday closed a six-year-old corruption case against Samajwadi Party supremo and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family members due to lack of evidence.
The agency cited insufficient evidence and closed the six-year-old case of Mulayam Singh Yadav owning assets disproportionate to known sources of his income in a special CBI court here. The agency had registered a preliminary inquiry on March 5, 2007, against Mulayam, sons Akhilesh and Prateek, and Akhilesh’s wife Dimple Yadav following a Supreme Court order of March 1, 2007, in a petition filed in November 2005. “Since the suspects did not join the inquiry at the initial stage, the preliminary inquiry was concluded in 2007 itself calculating their property,” said the agency.
Two held for killing eight soldiers
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police said yesterday it arrested two men involved in providing support for the June 24 guerrilla attack on an army convoy on the Muzaffarabad-Srinagar highway in which eight soldiers were killed.
“In a significant development, Jammu and Kashmir Police has cracked Hyderpora attack case in which eight army men were killed June 24. “We have so far arrested two people who were part of the criminal conspiracy and provided logistical support to the attackers and accompanied them to the spot of attack,” said Inspector General Abdul Ghani Mir.IANS
