New Delhi: A court yesterday imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on union minister Nitin Gadkari after he failed to comply with court’s earlier order in a defamation case he had filed against AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. Metropolitan Magistrate Gomati Manocha imposed the fine saying the minister failed to file an affidavit three days before the scheduled date of hearing. Posting the matter for March 21, 2015, the court gave Gadkari, a senior BJP leader, the final opportunity to file the affidavit. The court had earlier framed defamation charges against Kejriwal in the case. Gadkari had accused Kejriwal of defaming him by including his name in the AAP’s list of “India’s most corrupt”. The court had earlier also suggested both the leaders bury the hatchet and come to an amicable resolution of the case. Gadkari had told the court that he was ready to resolve the issue if Kejriwal withdrew his statement. However, Kejriwal refused to do so.
Kerala BJP to woo film personalities
Thiruvananthapuram: With BJP president Amit Shah on his second visit to Kerala — where the party is yet to open its account in the state assembly — it has been decided that the party will woo film personalities to get support in the state. The BJP might seek help from Guru Nair, a former office bearer of the Congress in Maharashtra, who has joined the BJP. Nair said that he met a few film personalities, including actor-turned politician and former state minister K B Ganesh Kumar and actor Lalu Alex. The BJP is also looking for actor Suresh Gopi. Winding up his visit, Amit Shah said that the NDA will welcome the small parties with open arms. “At the upcoming local bodies election (September 2015), the BJP will contest all the seats and the BJP will be a force to reckon with after the next assembly polls (May 2016) are over,” said Shah.
