DOHA: United Development Company (UDC) has signed a silver sponsorship agreement with Dar Al Sharq, a leading printing and publishing company in the country, to support the publication of the “White Book Qatar 2014”.
The annual publication will shed light on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives highlighting activities and programmes by companies and social organisations in Qatar, a press statement said.
The book will be officially launched at a press conference on December 23 in the presence of the Minister of Youth and Sports, H E Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser Al Ali.
One of the leading Qatari shareholding companies, UDC’s business practices are closely aligned with the wider goals of sustainable economic and social development in Qatar.
The statement said that UDC employs the highest standards of corporate social responsibility across its entire portfolio. These standards cover the welfare of employees, the environmental consequences of project activities, community services and volunteer work, as well as responsible and transparent corporate governance.
Turki Al Khater, UDC’s Chairman and Managing Director said, to that end the company’s efforts to mainstream CSR across its operations stem from the belief that choices made every day and acting in ways that respect people and protect the environment, serve to sustain the business in the long term.
He added: “UDC has always played a pioneering role in supporting CSR initiatives and literature in Qatar. This in itself expresses UDC’s character through words and actions. The White Book is one of those reference books that will help demonstrate the importance of good citizenship, active community participation, sound environmental policies and good governance in improving transparency, safeguarding stakeholder interests and establishing a socially responsible and effective corporate culture in Qatar.”
Major CSR players and supporters will be present at the press meet to discuss cases of CSR applications not only in Qatar but also in the region and other parts of the world.
