DOHA: The fifth Pan Arab Liver Transplant Society Conference concluded here on Sunday with a proposal to establish an Arab network for organ donors to make procedures for organ donation simpler and address the severe shortage of donors.
Participants also called for establishing a regional database for patients needing organ transplants which will help in exchange of information and assistance.
The need for amending laws in Arab countries related to organ donations and transplants was also stressed by speakers at the concluding session of the conference.
Addressing the conference, Dr Yousuf Al Maslamani, head of the National Organ Transplant Committee, said that Qatar is preparing a database with all information about patients seeking organ transplants as well as potential donors registered with the committee.
