Doha: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) volunteers have completed ‘Together for Benevolence,’ a charitable welfare programme to support expatriate workers in Qatar, with QR750,000 provided by Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar, as part of their longstanding commitment to serve the Qatari society.
The programme targeted 23,000 workers, particularly those involved with construction, road and civic projects.
Executed over two months by a large number of volunteers, the programme comprised three phases.
The first involved the distribution of 10,000 meals in districts and on major project sites.
Implemented over 15 days, the second and third phases were combined and involved the distribution of 7000 water bottles, 1,700 juice bottles and 2,656 hygiene kits. During warmer months, the remaining 1,644 items will be distributed to more workers.
Rashid bin Saad Al Mohannadi, Director, Social Development Department, of QRC, and Chief Supervisor of the programme, said, “The program seeks to help poor expatriate workers. We go to them at their workplaces to give them small gifts and say ‘thank you’ for all that they do in building modern edifices of Qatari society. “This is the first year of the programme and we hope to repeat and expand it in the near future.”
“Day after day, Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar proves its belief in and proper fulfilment of its duties towards society. It is one of the leading contributors to QRC’s projects, which reflects its trust in QRC’s charitable and humanitarian mission and its adoption of values of corporate social responsibility and social partnership.”
Michael Zeglin, President of the company, said, “Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar highly values its relationship with QRC and is a proud supporter of these projects. We look forward to continuing our support of QRC to positively impact expatriate workers in Qatar.”
Najat Al Haidous, Head, Volunteers Section, of QRC, said: “The programme was successful and volunteers were up to it and could overcome all challenges. We are proud of our volunteers, who do social work anonymously for all segments of Qatari society.”
