Doha: Qatar has sent a formal invitation to all member states of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) as well as the main oil producers operating outside the Organization to attend the meeting to be held in Doha on Sunday, April 17.
According to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Energy and Industry on Tuesday, the invitation emphasized on the urgent need to restore balance to the market and recovery to the global economy.
The statement said that the meeting aims at reaching an agreement between oil-producing countries to freeze their production at 2016 January's levels in order to reduce the surplus in global inventories for the interests of all concerned parties.
HE Minister of Energy and Industry Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada stated last week that a meeting will be held in Doha on April 17 with the participation of a number of OPEC members and major oil producers outside OPEC.
HE the Minister said that the number of countries that have expressed support for the initiative to freeze the production was up to that time about 15 countries within and outside OPEC, which produces nearly 73% of the global production.
