Part of Al Rayyan to get major facelift under Ashghal project

DOHA: Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has started a project to give a complete infrastructure facelift to Legdeim, Bani Hajer area (North), part of Al Rayyan Municipality. 

The project will provide comprehensive infrastructure for residential units, educational institutions and businesses located in Rawdat Legdeim, Bani Hajer and the surrounding areas.

A complete infrastructure including a new road network, a sewerage network, traffic signals and street landscaping are being developed to improve the quality of life for residents of Rawdat Legdeim, Bani Hajer and the neighbouring places, according to Saoud Al Tamimi Manager of the Roads Projects Department and Manager of the Local Roads and Drainage Programme at Ashghal.

Upon completion the area will have some special features as walking and cycling lanes, car parks, pedestrians crossing and safety fences to ensure pedestrians’ safety and a clear signage around the area, said Al Tamimi yesterday at a press conference held at their headquarters. 

“Developing the roads and infrastructure in Rawdat Legdeim, Bani Hajer area as per the best international standards, drives socio-economic growth, and is in conformity with Qatar National Vision 2030 to provide a comprehensive infrastructure in all areas of Qatar” he added. 

The project will be implemented in two phases and the first stage work is expected to be completed within 15 months. Ashghal in partnership with Hyder Consultancy Middle East is working on the QR326m worth first phase of the project. 

The 152-hectare plot’s, phase one will include the layout of approximately 23km of arterial and local roads with varying corridor widths ranging from 16 to 40m. Second phase of the project which is being designed will begin in August said, Al Tamimi. 

The road network will contain two signalised junctions together with priority intersections to ensure road safety and efficient traffic movement in the neighbourhood.

To minimise inconvenience to residents, Ashghal will ensure to keep access to all buildings open throughout the project. Wherever possible, construction works surrounding schools will be carried out during holidays and when schools are closed. Entrances and exits to schools will remain open during school hours, and safe routes around the working area will be available. Ashghal’s Local Roads and Drainage Programme is designed to upgrade and maintain the road and drainage network across the country’s five regions as Qatar North, Qatar South, Doha North, Doha South and Doha West. 

The Peninsula
