Doha: Sarang Plus, a South Korean cultural centre, has been launched in Doha. It will become fully functional in September, offering Korean language, music, cooking and taekwondo classes. The centre is being run by Jaehoon Hong and his wife Jiwon An, who will also teach Korean music.
Hong, who holds a PhD in international relations, said that many people in Qatar are interested in the Korean culture, especially music, known as Kpop.
A Korean coach from the Qatar Army will teach taekwondo, martial arts that originated in Korea, at the centre. “The fee for all sessions will be between QR500 and QR1,000 a month,” Hong said, adding that there are plans to set up women-only taekwondo classes. An, a graduate of Seoul National University, will give traditional and contemporary Korean music classes. From August 7 to 15, a group of Korean students will come to Qatar for a cultural exchange programme.
