Doha: Alfaisal Without Borders (Alf) Foundation is partnering with The Prince of Wales’s charity on three projects that aim to empower the youth.
The Alf Foundation will donate QR1m a year to support a secondary school mentoring programme in deprived areas of the UK, a young offender’s programme in the UK and young entrepreneurs in Jordan under the partnership with Mosaic mentoring initiative.
Mosaic is part of Business in the Community, HRH The Prince of Wales’ charity, that promotes responsible business practice.
Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, the founder of Alf Foundation, met HRH The Prince of Wales in London to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations.
The MoU was signed by Alf General Manager Abdullatif Ali Al Yafei and Mosaic National Director Jonathan Freeman. The signing came in the middle of a week-long event, ‘Celebrating Enterprise’, marking what The Prince of Wales and his charities have achieved in the area of enterprise. In total, his charities have helped create more than 125,000 entrepreneurs across the world and provided business support to more than 395,000 people of all ages. “The Foundation is delighted to work with The Prince’s Charities and, in particular, to partner with these three projects which empower young people by giving them knowledge and skills to take control of their own futures and play a role in transforming their environment. We look forward to supporting HRH The Prince of Wales’ mission to help disadvantaged young people growing up in deprived communities and hearing their success stories in the months and years to come,” Sheikh Faisal Al Thani said.
“The new partnership with Mosaic is in line with the Foundation’s key mission to support the less advantaged and socially deprived by giving them ‘something that no-one can take back’. The Foundation aspires to empower people in need with projects and opportunities in education and training, healthcare and social care, as well as culture and young enterprise,” Alf General Manager, Al Yafei said.
Alf is a Foundation based in Qatar which promotes sustainable development and improved quality of life for people around the world. It is a philanthropic not-for-profit organisation which partners with governments, key charities and NGOs internationally to run social welfare development programmes in addition to providing humanitarian and aid relief.
The Mosaic projects supported by the Foundation include the Mosaic Secondary School Mentoring Programme, which focuses on raising the skills and aspirations of teenagers in deprived areas of the UK. It matches skilled mentors with small groups of secondary school pupils and together they work on building the pupils’ motivation and self-image as well as improving their soft-skills. The mentors act as positive role-models for the young people and help them to become more employable as they enter the workforce.
