DOHA: Two-time champions Lekhwiya were handed a shock 2-0 home defeat by Al Kharaitiyat in the Qatar Stars League (QSL) yesterday.

Goals by Domingoes Dos Santos (22) and Jessy John (68) helped Al Kharaitiyat claim all three points at Lekhwiya Stadium.

In other matches yesterday, Al Wakra condemned Al Rayyan to their second straight defeat, after  Sebastian Saez  (68) and Michael Sousa (77, 90+7) both scored to claim all three points in a 3-1 win. Rodrigo Tabata replied for Al Rayyan.

In another match, Eljaish, coached by Razvan Lucescu were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Alain Perrin’s Umm Salal.

Dos Santos gave the visitors the lead through a powerful header.

The visitors were celebrating again when John calmly slotted the ball into the net in the 68th minute.

Coached by Eric Gerets, Lekhwiya, who were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League by Guangzhou Evergrande on Wednesday, are still without a win this season after a thrilling 3-3 draw against Al Sailiyah in the first round last week.

Lekhwiya, who won the Heir Apparent Cup last season play their next match at home to Al Arabi on Saturday.

Al Kharaitiyat, losing finalists in the Sheikh Jassim Cup earlier this month will play Qatar SC on Friday. THE PENINSULA
