Doha: New sets of Qatar Academy student leaders met with their respective teams for the first house assembly of the school year. There are four different teams each represented by a local animal and colour that make up the house system. Now on its second year of implementation, it aims to build a stronger community across the primary school, provide leadership opportunities, develop the learner profile and raise school spirit through healthy competition.
This is the main message which Al Maha leaders Lulu Al Misned and Abdulla Borei, Al Shaheen heads Ahmed Al Mannai and Ruba Al Mahmoud, Al Hessan skippers Nour El Saady and Khalifa Al Thani and Al Ghazelle captains Sara Al Delaimi and Adam Sherwood and their respective deputies delivered to their groups during the assembly. The young leaders shared a bit about themselves, their leadership styles and why are they excited about taking on the responsibility of leading a huge group of primary pupils.
Al Maha leader Abdulla Borei encapsulated it best when he said, “I want to be remembered as the leader that was fun, who focused more on trying and not just winning”.
Following the promising response to the program, the house points system remains a positive reinforcement initiative with students standing to gain a greater sense of wellbeing which in turn encourage individual confidence and build self-esteem, helping them to be positive in all aspects of their school and social lives.
The assembly ended with a relatively simple game where students are grouped and tasked to make the first letter of an International Baccalaureate learner profile word. These learner profile words make up a set of learning outcomes which help guide student learning and development and the groups can choose which one is the most important for them.
