DOHA: There is one teacher for every seven Independent school students and every 14 private school students in Qatar, according to latest data released by the Supreme Education Council (SEC).
The number of school students in Qatar rose to 2,08,505 during 2011-2012 which included 1,14,500 private school students and 94,005 Independent school students.
There were more students enrolled in private schools, but the number of teachers was higher in Independent schools. Of the 20,549 teachers, 12,447 were employed with Independent schools and 8,102 worked with private schools. The total number of schools in the country was 355, including 177 Independent schools and 178 private schools.
The SEC yesterday issued the Booklet of the Annual Education Statistics for the years 2011 and 2012. The booklet includes figures and key statistic indications on the education process covering various schooling stages including pre-school, primary, preparatory and secondary education.
The statistics were classified according to the types of education: public, independent, evening education, private, and special needs education. The figures also include data covering the number of schools, students, teachers, staff and classes, the average number of students in each class and school, and other facts.
The booklet aims to provide decision-takers, policymakers and researchers with accurate educational statistics to help them in scheduling programs, arranging plans, and placing policies and educational strategies based on scientific grounds.
