QUETTA: A bomb targeting security forces yesterday killed three people and wounded 25 in Pakistan’s restive southwest, officials said.

The remote-controlled bomb was planted on a bicycle near a check-post run by police and the paramilitary Frontier Corps in the Satellite town area of Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province.

“At least three people, including two policemen, were killed and 25 others wounded in the blast,” senior local police official Samiullah Soomro said.

He said eight of the wounded, including six policemen and two FC officials, were in a critical condition.

Senior local administration official Zahid bin Maqsood confirmed the incident and casualties.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility.

Baluchistan has been badly hit by a decade-long Baluch separatist insurgency and sectarian violence mainly targeting Shiites from the Hazara ethnic community.

Elsewhere, in the northwestern bordering town of Torkhum, a suicide bomber blew himself up in the halls of customs offices, wounding 17 people, officials said.

Local senior administration official in Landi Kotal, Tayyab Abdullah, said authorities took possession of the body parts of bomber after the attack.

He said the impact of the explosion led the roof of the hall to collapse.
