DOHA: Many children and their parents gathered at the Diplomatic Club yesterday to learn how to make healthy meals from an international chef.
Chef Ann Cooper a specialised chef in healthy meals for children demonstrated healthy cooking at an event organised by the Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar as part of Sahtak Awalan- Your Health First campaign.
During an interactive cookery demonstration Chef Cooper prepared four quick, healthy, simple and delicious meals that were them sampled by the audience.
“The future health of our children is dependent on them eating healthy, at home and away, and parents really need to be educated so they can pass on this knowledge to their children. If this doesn’t happen we are going to have a nation of sick kids who are insulin-dependent and who are going to die at a younger age than we are,” said Chef Cooper.
She is known in the US for promoting and creating nutritious meals including salad bars to school cafeterias and has helped transform school meals for more than a million children across the US. Chef Cooper explained that children have to be encouraged from an early age to eat healthy meals as otherwise they can become accustomed to foods laden with sugar and fat.
“Food tastes can even be influenced in the womb,” she said explaining that babies whose mothers eat fruit and vegetable are more likely to enjoy the same food.
Sahtak Awalan- Your Health First campaign is designed to educate people about how they can begin leading healthy lifestyles.
