DOHA: Mesaieed in the south and Abu Samra on the Qatar-Saudi border received the maximum rainfall of 25.8 and 25.6 inches, respectively, on Wednesday.

Some places in the north —with the entire area continuing to witness heavy and intermittent rains, received rainfall as the downpour continued throughout the day and a good part of Wednesday night.

Al Ghuwairia received some 25.1 inches of rainfall, followed by Al Shahaniya (22.5 inches) and Al Khor (19 inches).

In Dukhan, the rainfall was 22.2 inches. In Doha, which also witnessed light to heavy rains intermittently on Wednesday, the rainfall was 18.8 inches. In Al Wakra, on the other hand, the rainfall recorded was 17.2 inches.

The weather bureau has forecast thundery rains in the north today. Overall, the weather will be windy in the entire country.

Despite the northwesterly winds that carry some chill as they blow from the colder regions of Europe, day temperatures could go up to 24 degrees Celsius in many parts of the country, including Doha, Al Wakra, Messaieed and Al Khor.

Temperatures at night could drop to 17 degrees C in Messaieed and Al Wakra, while for Doha the forecast is 19 degrees C.

Winds could be stronger in the coastal areas and offshore with speed going up to 30 knots.

Inland, the wind speed forecast is between 10 and 18 knots and could at times soar to 25 knots.

Meanwhile, emergency municipal teams have drained some three million gallons of water from water-logged areas in different parts of the country (excluding Doha) after intermittent rains on Wednesday.

A large chunk (more than 2.6m gallons) was drained in the northern areas.

Figures for Doha were not immediately available.

Water draining work was still continuing in some areas, including Al Rayyan, where more than 772,000 gallons were drained from different localities.

In Al Khor and Al Dhakhira, civic teams drained out some 320,000 gallons of water.

Teams are working round-the-clock and municipal hotlines were receiving calls for help.
