DOHA: After a successful 27-day voyage around the Gulf, the traditional Qatari dhow Fath Al Kheir will embark on yet another journey, this time to India, the fourth Katara Traditional Dhow Festival organising committee announced yesterday.
The dhow’s date of departure from Katara is to be announced soon.
Meanwhile, the Festival will conclude today with the awarding of prizes to the winners of various competitions.
An Al Qafal ceremony will be the highlight of today’s programme, during which the people will welcome the sailors and participants in the pearl diving competition at the Katara beach in a colourful ceremony featuring traditional songs.
Katara General Manager Dr Khalid Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said, “By organising this festival and this journey, we want to preserve our maritime heritage by introducing it to the new generation and raising awareness of life of their ancestors during the pre-oil and gas era.”
