Philippine flood toll: two killed, 146,000 displaced

MANILA: Tropical depression Shanshan left two dead while more than 146,000 people from the Visayas and Mindanao were displaced by floods and landslides spawned by the weather disturbance.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Thursday  that  Shanshan slightly increased speed as it continued to move out of the country.
Some P96m in standby funds was set aside by the Department of Social Welfare and Development for the purchase of food and other relief items for Shanshan’s victims.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council identified the dead as Erwin Campana, 43, of Montevista, and Francisco Digaynon of New Bataan, both in Compostela Valley. 
The victims drowned while crossing the Saug and Taytayan rivers, respectively.
The number of affected individuals has reached 146,041 or 31,749 families from 113 barangays in Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, General Santos, Caraga and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
