DOHA: Qatar Academy Sidra’s Art Department has raised QR10,000 for Syrian refugees from an auction at the school’s second student art exhibition.
The auction comprised artworks created as group effort from each grade and proceeds were donated to Qatar Charity. It follows QR8,000 raised for 2012 Sri Lankan earthquake victims during the previous school art exhibition.
During the latest exhibition, parents were invited to view their children’s artwork, including paintings, drawings, sketches, print making, sculptures and digital creations.
Ashley Doucette Pilles, Art teacher, said: “Students worked hard on their creations and were delighted to have parents take the time to view their projects. We are proud of our students’ accomplishments and support and enthusiasm we have received for art in education.”
The exhibition also featured family artistic-themed activities, including symmetry challenges, murals, sticker tables, origami making, hand print murals, light tables, sand drawing and iPad art.
The academy opened doors in September 2012 as part of Qatar Foundation for Education. It caters to pre-KG up to grade 8 students. Every year, it will add one grade level and upon completion, will offer KG to Grade 12.
