Doha, Qatar: Minister of State for Energy Affairs HE Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi issued Decision No. (07) of 2026, providing for the extension of the compliance period for those subject to the provisions of Law No. (23) of 2025 on water for an additional six months, effective June 19, 2026.

In a post on its account on the X platform on Tuesday, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) said the decision comes as part of completing the legislative framework governing the water sector in the country and supports efforts for the sustainable management of water resources in accordance with the approved legal framework.

In essence, Law No. (23) of 2025 on water is a strategic step to reinforce water security and achieve sustainability in water resources management for future generations through pursuing a combined approach to manage wide-ranging water sources and operationalize oversight programs.

The law sets an overall framework to chart water policies in support of sustainable economic development, regulating groundwater utilization through specified regulations and criteria for digging wells and reducing depletion of water stockpiles.

In addition, the legislation includes provisions that regulate the production and distribution of desalinated water, encourage expansion in treating and repurposing wastewater, thereby helping mitigate pressure on traditional water resources and compelling industrial facilities to treat and dispose of their water based on the approved requirements.
