DOHA: Many entertaining and educational activities were recently organised for children with special needs by Hamad Medical Corporation’s special education centre together with the Children’s Cultural Center.
Activities were held as part of the centre’s campaign ‘I Read’ and included the mobile library, where children enjoyed painting, learning and watching drama shows.
“These activities come within an entertaining plan for patients and aim to raise levels of education. We collaborate with voluntary institutions to provide us with entertaining and educational activities for patients, especially during national and religious occasions.
“We believe that such activities help patients emotionally and relieve their pain. Children are our main target in these campaigns,” said Director of Health Professions Awareness and Volunteering Programmes at HMC, Balqees Al Khazraji.
Educational and entertaining activities are held to develop skills of children with special needs.
“These activities are so important in helping develop skills in these children and entertain them. The Special Education Center has 45 children with special needs of different nationalities between three and six years. We also have 30 teachers for special education, in addition to volunteers from HMC’s Health Professions Awareness and Volunteering Programmes,” said Coordinator and Acting Head of Special Education Center, Narjis Suleiman. Parents of participating children appreciated the centre’s activities and their role in their children’s social and mental development and speech abilities.
