HMC provides smooth delivery of emergency services during holidays

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has continued to provide smooth delivery of emergency and essential services across the hospitals despite an increase in number of cases during the ongoing Eid Al Adha holidays.

The main Emergency Department  at the Hamad General Hospital  (HGH),  Pediatric Emergency Centres and the Ambulance Service have attended hundreds of patients including trauma and critical  cases in the first three days of Eid.  

The Emergency Department at HGH received a total of 600 cases yesterday, the third day of Eid.  “The number of cases we received on the third day was higher than the first two days of Eid. 

The first day the Emergency Department attended 363 cases and on Wednesday 418. This is a significant increase,” Dr. Abdulnasir Howaidi, Senior Consultant at the Emergency Department, told The Peninsula.  

“This is because some people started work on Thursday and more people started going out.  We received patients who were suffering from heat exhaustion and tiredness,” he added.

According to Dr. Howaidi , some patients complained of abdominal pains, chest pains which were not significant and some cases of minor injuries. 

“We had a significant number of minor injuries but the serious cases were only three which were related to road accidents,” he said. The Pediatric Emergency Centers remain open 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week for medical emergencies involving children under the age of 14 years.  

HMC’s main Pediatric Emergency Centre (PEC) in Al Saad received more than 1,300 cases in the first three days of Eid.  

According to Acting Chairman of Pediatrics and Director of Pediatric Centres, Dr. Mohamed Al Amri, the PEC in Al Saad received 512 cases on the third day of Eid and there were only one case of metabolic acidosis which was urgent, while three were admitted to HGH.

PEC satellite centers in Al Rayan, Al Dayeen and Airport area received a total of 374 cases with different complaints.

“In general, all cases are stable and there were no ICU admissions and critical cases,” said Dr. Al Amri.

The Ambulance Service also continues to operate 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week for people requiring emergency medical assistance.

Ambulance Service has implemented an effective strategic plan to attend into potential emergencies during the Eid Al Adha holidays. The Ambulance Service has deployed ambulances, critical care paramedics, bicycles, golf carts on standby across the country including at places like Al Wakrah, Souq Waqif, Katara, Sealine Beach and Smaisma Beach.

Assistant Executive Director of the Ambulance Service, Ali Darwish said that on the third day of Eid Al Adha from 12am to 12 noon the Ambulance Service has transported 200 cases. Among them five were road traffic accidents and three were transported by LifeFlight.   The Trauma and Emergency Center continues to operate 24-hours-a-day throughout the Eid holiday period as normal. 

The Nesma’ak Call Center will reopen today Friday 23 July at 2pm.

HMC’s Urgent Consultation Service is closed from Friday July 16 until Sunday July 25 and reopens Monday July 26.

While, the Pharmacy Home Delivery Service is closed from Friday July 16 until Sunday July 25 and reopen Monday July 26.

The National Mental Health Helpline is also closed from Friday July 16 until Sunday July 25 J and will reopen Monday July 26. While, the Hamad Blood Donor Centers reopened on July 21.
