Doha, Qatar: The State of Qatar strongly condemned the Houthi group's targeting of a Saudi ship while it was sailing in the Red Sea, and considered it a flagrant violation of international navigation safety, a direct threat to the security of global energy supplies, and a clear and explicit breach of the rules of international law.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the continuation of these rejected aggressions represents a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region, as well as the efforts aimed at establishing regional security and stability.
The Ministry called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities regarding the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216 on Yemen, and Resolution 2722 on the rights and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, and affirmed that freedom of navigation in international waterways is a fundamental principle of international law, and of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982.
The Ministry renewed the State of Qatar's full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and extended support for all measures it takes to preserve its sovereignty, security, and interests. It affirmed that the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is an integral part of the security of the State of Qatar and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The Ministry expressed the State of Qatar's appreciation for the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman currently underway to coordinate between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Yemeni parties, and the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, with the aim of resuming the political process and the roadmap to achieve security and stability in the region
