Six new government schools to open for 2026-27 academic year

Doha, Qatar: Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater has issued Decision No. (14) of 2026 approving the opening of six new government schools and the appointment and transfer of several school principals, as part of the ministry’s preparations for the 2026-2027 academic year.

The decision aims to strengthen the readiness of Qatar’s public education system, expand educational capacity and further enhance the quality and efficiency of school administration.

The six newly opened government schools are Qatar Science and Technology Preparatory and Secondary School for Boys – Al Sakhama; Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School for Girls – Rawdat Al Hamama; Ain Khaled Secondary School for Boys; Doha Preparatory School for Girls; Al Dhakira Primary School for Boys; and Muaither Primary School for Girls.

The decision also includes the appointment of 17 school principals and the transfer of another 17 principals to various government schools. The move is intended to support the efficiency of school leadership and ensure greater administrative and educational readiness ahead of the new academic year.

The latest measures are part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to provide a high-quality learning environment, develop educational leadership and strengthen the capabilities of school administrators in line with Qatar’s growing educational needs.

The initiative also supports the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly its Human Development pillar, by investing in education and developing human capabilities to contribute to Qatar’s sustainable development.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education supports and oversees education in Qatar, ensuring the continued development of a robust, diversified and expanding K-12 education system that provides a broad range of schooling opportunities to meet the individual needs of students and their families.

Qatar’s education system includes 278 public schools and nurseries serving 137,048 students, as well as 351 private schools and nurseries serving approximately 228,488 students. These schools offer different curricula and serve students from a wide range of nationalities, providing diverse educational options for families across the country.

Maintaining high standards for teachers is central to the success of Qatar’s schools. The Ministry recruits, licenses and supports teachers through a range of professional development opportunities and training programmes. It has invested substantial resources in teacher training and development as part of its commitment to continuously improving the quality of education.

Qatar is committed to advancing its education system by incorporating international best practices and standards while ensuring that these developments remain compatible with Qatari values and culture.

The School and Student Affairs Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education supervises public schools by setting the terms and conditions for establishing public education schools in accordance with MoEHE policies. The Department proposes the necessary financial resources to support schools and provides administrative and technical guidance and support to help ensure the achievement of educational quality standards.
