Doha: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani sent a cable of greetings to the President of Mali, Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, on his country’s Independence Day.
The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani sent a similar cable to the president.
Qatar condemns Nairobi attack
Doha: Qatar has strongly condemned the armed attack on Westgate shopping mall in Westlands neighbourhood in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, which has left several people dead and injured, including nationals from the UK, France, Canada and the US. In a statement, an official source at the Foreign Ministry expressed Qatar’s solidarity with the people and governments of Kenya, the UK, France, Canada and US.
The source stressed that Qatar condemns such cowardly and criminal acts which aim to destabilise security and stability and terrorise innocent people, and denounces the killing of innocent people. He also expressed Qatar’s condolences and sympathy to the friendly governments and the families of the victims killed in this criminal attack.
Haj mission not part of state’s quota
Doha: The Department of Haj and Umrah at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs reiterated that the quota for Qatar for this year’s Haj is 1,200 pilgrims and the members of the Haj mission are not part of this quota. The department also pointed out that the total number of the mission members, which is 300, is much lower than the figure being circulated.Qna
