Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM)'s international reserves amounted to RM399.7 billion (about $96.4bn ), as on December 15, 2016 compared with RM399.64bn about ($96.4bn) recorded as at November 30, 2016.
In a statement yesterday, BNM said the reserves position is sufficient to finance 8.3 months of retained imports and is 1.2 times the short-term external debt, which includes short-term offshore borrowing, non-resident holdings of short-term ringgit debt securities, non-resident deposits with the banking system, and other short-term debt. Of the reserves, $89bn was in foreign currency reserves, $1.1bn in Special Drawing Rights $1.6bn in gold and $800m in IMF reserves position, with the remainder $3.9bn in other reserve assets. Total assets were RM424.22bn, while currency in circulation amounted to RM94.77bn.
