DOHA: With just one week remaining in the AFC U23 Championship, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) yesterday continued promoting the hugely popular event by taking the official mascot ‘Najim’ across schools and other institutions across the country.
The 16-team event, which began on January 12, will end on January 30.
The promotional activities include LOC members visiting schools, universities and reaching out to various communities in Qatar.
The official mascot ‘Najim’ has accompanied the LOC delegation to various schools, offices and major tourist attraction sports in the country.
Najim has also visited the four event venues namely Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Grand Hamad Stadium, Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium and Qatar Sports Club Stadium.
Taking pictures with ‘Najim’ has emerged as the most popular of all activities, LOC officials said.
A little over 10 days ago, LOC delegation visited Al Noor Institute for the Blind where once again “Najim” was the centre of attention with those present at the gathering.
LOC members gave details on the event and why teams will be looking to finish among the top three at the three-week event.
Other stopovers include Montazah Independent School for Boys, Qatar University, Sudanese Wisdom International School and the International School of Choueifat.
Hosts Qatar are one of 16 teams featuring at the event and have qualified for the semi-finals along with Japan.
Najim so far has visited the following places in Qatar are Khalifa Primary School, Al Noor School , Althukheera Primary School, Al Manar Primary School , Alandalus Primary School, Landmark Mall, Dhreima & Global Academy, Soud bin Abdulrahman Primary School, Mashuq Al Haq Bangladeshi School, Al Montazah primary school, Sudanese school, Philippine school Doha & Qatar University, Aspire park & Villagio Mall, Qatar Olympic team training Aspire zone, Shafallah Centre, Al Hekma international School, Corniche & Katara, Opening Ceremony of AFC U23, Newton International school & Pearling school, BEIN sport & Katara, AFC U23 media Centre for Qatar vs Iran Match and Museum Islamic Art Park.
