Doha: Qatar Charity and Federation of Islamic Medical Associations concluded yesterday an intensive training programme in first aid for 100 Syrian medics, in order to help them serve Syrians who need medical attention.

A statement released yesterday said that the training course was one of Qatar Charity’s efforts in trying to bridge the gap in a number of areas including trained Syrian medics in Syria. It added that the training was crucial in saving the lives of Syrians caught in the violence.

Qatar Charity contributed some QR13m to the Syrian people in the health field alone.

Meanwhile, Qatari Red Crescent (QRC) said yesterday that Aleppo is in urgent need of $1.5m to execute a six-month plan to remove garbage from the city.

A QRC team had just returned to Doha from a field visit to Aleppo and the Northern region in Syria, with aim to identify where aid and assistance are needed, as well as to learn about the latest developments in the city. The spike in violence, according to the team, has led to a halt in all of the city’s services, including garbage collecting and recycling.

QRC’s plan involves finding a comprehensive scheme to get rid of the garbage in the city. The second part of the plan is to provide finance for providing diesel, which is used in operating machinery used in garbage services.
