Doha: International School of London Qatar will host the second annual World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) event on March 20 and 21 in Doha—bringing together students from all across the region for two fun-filled days of learning and leadership.
The World Scholar’s Cup is one of the most recognised, joyful, and fastest-growing extracurricular activities in the world, with more than 15,000 students set to participate this year at 50 regional events in 30 countries across six continents. Although it may look at first glance like an academic competition, it is more aptly described as a celebration of learning—an inclusive enrichment experience in which students of all backgrounds work together to explore new subjects and practice new skills.
Events at the World Scholar’s Cup, and their target skills, include team debate, collaborative writing, Scholar’s Bowl (fast-paced group problem-solving) and Scholar’s Challenge (critical thinking, decision-making). Rounding out the schedule are community-building events, such as a forum discussion led by nominated speakers and a thoroughly optional talent show in which scholars can entertain their peers. At least ten teams in each division, junior (ages 10-14) and senior (ages 15+), will earn onward invitations to the 2015 Global Round in Kuala Lumpur in June, which will bring together 2,500 students from more than 40 countries, and to a special year-end conference hosted by Yale University. The Peninsula
