MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) is ready for any eventuality and prepared to secure the celebration of the 29th anniversary of the EDSA People Power tomorrow, February 25.

PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said the members of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) to respond to any threat that might happen during the event.

Cerbo said the police force will secure everyone who will be attending the event, which will be attended by President Benigno Aquino III, several political, business and church leaders.

The president' mother, the late President Corazon Aquino, has been hailed as an icon of democracy in the country for her role in the ouster of the strongman Ferdinand Marcos Sr. in Feb. 25, 1986.

Cerbo said the PNP will also respect the protesters who would be staging rallies during the celebration.

"Iginagalang po natin ang freedom of speech at assembly ng ating mga kababayan. Pero sa private place, kelangan po nilang mag secure ng permit (rally)," Cerbo said.

Cerbo added that the police organization has yet to monitor any coup plot or destablization campaign to disrupt the People Power celebration.

Meanwhile,  the PNP spokesman said that the traditional "salubungan" or unity walk during the People Power event will be more meaningful amid the Mamasapano incident.
