Doha, Qatar: The second Ramadan Blitz Chess Championship concluded at the Friends of the Environment Center, hosted in cooperation with the Doha Youth Center and organized by the Qatar Chess Association.
The internationally rated event attracted 70 players and was staged at the Friends of the Environment Center. The tournament followed a nine-round Swiss system format, with a time control of three minutes per player plus a two-second increment per move. FIDE regulations were applied, alongside a strict zero-tolerance policy on electronic devices to safeguard fair play.
Azerbaijan’s Asdali Vugar delivered a flawless performance to secure the title with a maximum nine points. The Philippines’ Loyola Rollitson Jr. claimed second place on eight points, while India’s Akshith Saravanan finished third with seven points.
Among the Qatari participants, Rayan Mohammed Fardous emerged as the best Qatari male player, while Layan Al-Qassabi earned the award for best Qatari female player.
The championship is part of ongoing collaboration between the Doha Youth Center and the Qatar Chess Association to expand participation and raise playing standards across the country.
Hamad Al-Tamimi, Executive Director of the Association, praised the competitive atmosphere and the strong turnout across different age groups, including members of Qatar’s national teams.
