Doha: A delegation of young Qatar Charity volunteers visited the Jordanian capital of Amman to deliver aid to Syrian refugees as part of the second edition of the Competitors campaign. The aid, valuing QR4.5m, included shelter, food and projects for productive families and education.
The money was presented in a special ceremony attended by QC CEO, Yousef Ahmed bin Al Kuwari, President of QC’s local partner, Al Urwa Al Wothqa Association, Munther Al Zimaili, Sheikh Dr Mohammad Ratib Nabulsi, Ebrahim Zainal, Deputy Executive Director of the Department for International Development, QC Ambassador Mohammed Saadoun Al Kuwari, a number of officials as well as beneficiaries of the project.
“The delegation came in order to witness the condition of their Syrian brothers who were forced by circumstances to flee to Jordan,” Nabulsi said, commending the ‘Competitors’ campaign for its support for the Syrian people who are suffering because of the difficult conditions of displacement and asylum. He thanked QC for all the projects implemented inside Syrian and its neighbouring countries.
“Despite the fact that Qatar Charity implements other relief projects for communities affected by natural and man-made disasters, relief for the Syrian people occupies center stage by virtue of their human suffering and the high numbers of internally displaced persons and refugees abroad,” said Al Kuwari in his speech. “This is what made Qatar Charity become first place globally in terms of humanitarian NGOs working for the relief of the Syrian people until the end of 2013 according to a report issued by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs ‘OCHA’,” he added.
Saeed Mohammed Al Nabit, Sheikh Khaled Abu Moza, Hadi Al Marri, Ahmed Salem Al Bakri, Mohsen Shahwani, Ali Atiq, Mohammad Hassan Gharib, Captain Ibrahim Khalfan, Salim Hamad Daiya, Nasser Nahar Al Bubair Al Shammari, Rashid Kuwari, Dr Ilham Badr, Shahirah Shahwani, Ismaa Al Kaabi and her son Fadhl, Talal Al Tamimi, Muhammad Ali Jaham Kuwari and Talal Al Kuwari were the volunteers.
