DOHA: The American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar  (AmCham) will be collecting donations for the victims of the tornado that has hit Oklahoma this week. Donations can be dropped off at the Doha Rugby Club located next to Doha College today and tomorrow.

An official from AmCham will be at the club during the weekend from 3 to 5pm. People that wish to donate something, are called upon taking pillows, blankets, new and used clothing and bedding, items which are specially needed.

Because the Doha Rugby Club is a private association, the person donating will need to carry ID and tell the gate guard that they are there to donate for the Oklahoma victims.

During the monthly Distinguished Speaker Series hosted by Am Cham this week, the founding chairman of the institution, Robert Hager, called out to attendees, members and citizens in general, to contribute with anything they could.

Am Cham, which was founded in 2010 and now has over 100 member companies — both from Qatar and the US — took the chance to thank the Doha Rugby Club for putting their facilities at their service and DHL Express for shipping all the collected items free of charge.

A massive tornado tore through the Oklahoma City suburb of Moore on Tuesday, destroying blocks of houses and killing at least 24 people, including nine children.

About 2,400 homes were damaged in the Oklahoma cities of Moore and Oklahoma City, with some 10,000 people directly impacted by the tornado, international media has reported.
