BRASILIA: Brazil has spent more than $850 million on security for the 2014 FIFA World Cup scheduled to start next month, officials said.

The government will deploy 57,000 troops, 100,000 police and other security forces in the 12 World Cup cities to guard hotels, stadiums and airports during the football matches, Secretary of Defence Celso Amorim and Justice Minister Jose Eduardo Cardozo announced.

Amorim insisted that Brazil is perfectly prepared to guarantee the safety of the World Cup events.
The navy will provide an additional 13,000 service personnel, four frigates, one corvette and 21 patrol boats, according to dpa.

The air force will send 24 Super Tucano aircraft, three radar aircraft and 11 helicopters.

Cardozo said organizers are prepared for protests and demonstrations.

Officials said they believe the protests will be smaller than the demonstrations that broke out during warm up events for Cup last year. (QNA)
