Doha, Qatar: New York City has launched a lottery offering 1,000 discounted FIFA World Cup tickets priced at $50 for residents.
In a social media post, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said ticket prices for matches had risen into the thousands of dollars, prompting the city to introduce the initiative to make the tournament more accessible to residents aged 15 and above.
The lottery will open on May 25 at 10am ET and run for six days, with a daily entry cap of 50,000 participants. Once the limit is reached, entries will close and reopen the following day at 10am ET.
Eligible New Yorkers may enter the lottery (https://regnyctix.com) once per day, allowing a maximum of six entries during the registration period. Randomly selected winners will be notified on June 3 through their registered email addresses and will have 48 hours to purchase up to two tickets at the discounted price.
To qualify, applicants must verify their identity and residency using official documents such as identification cards, pay stubs, rental or mortgage agreements, or recent utility bills.
Winners will also be required to collect their tickets in person on match day before boarding a complimentary round-trip bus service to MetLife Stadium. Organisers noted that the tickets will be non-transferable without exception.
