Banks’ assets hit QR951.9bn

DOHA: Assets of banks in the country are nearly touching a trillion riyals (QR951.9bn), with marginal growth in lending to the private sector and their deposits in May.

Credit dispensed to the government and the public sector by the banking industry, on the other hand, fell 5.9 percent in May. Figures released by The Group citing Qatar Central Bank data suggest government and public sector deposits with banks also dropped in May by QR2.2bn.
Loans to the private sector grew by QR2bn in the month to QR300.4bn, while their deposits rose by 0.1bn to QR303.3bn.
