DOHA: Katara has launched www.qatarspots.com – an online directory for Qatar which provides a guide map on various places, which can be useful for tourists and residents.
Salem Al Merri, member of the Public Relations and Communication Department at Katara, said that the website is an integral map that provides a comprehensive glimpse of Qatar to nationals, tourists and expatriates.
“It is significant step for the promotion of tourism in Qatar and support for e-governance. The website can easily help visitors reach their destination.”
Founded by Faisal Al Haithami, the website is said to be the first of its kind that provides a comprehensive listing of places in different categories and a map to these places.
Al Haithami is an accredited media specialist and blogger who has made a major contribution to the electronic media locally and regionally. He participated in many conferences in Jordan and Oman and recently took part in a bloggers forum held by Al Sharq newspaper and Cultural Village Foundation.
Al Haithami said that the website is a further step in the development of electronic services in Qatar. “We first came up with the idea of launching this website as Qatar has been attracting people from all over the world who need to have an accurate guide that provides all data they require.”
The website includes 10 categories which are classified into 50 sub-categories. “We endeavoured to make the website easily accessible to all visitors. We have provided a detailed and vivid guide that includes data related to embassies, departments, places, restaurants, clinics, hospitals, stadiums and transportation. Qatar’s map at spots website is compatible to that in Google website,” Al Haithami said. The Peninsula
