MOGADISHU: The United States Aid Agency (USAID) pledged today a $470 million grant to Somalia. The grant will support the country's efforts in dealing with droughts and developing essential services.

The grant brings the total amount allocated by the agency to $668 million.

This came during a meeting between President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Head of the United States Aid Agency Ambassador Samantha Power.

The two sides also discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation. The president also discussed the plans of the Somali Government in the fields of fisheries, livestock and agriculture production, with priority being given to avoiding dependence on humanitarian aid and changing it to economic investment that leads to sustainable development.
